Construction companies are often faced with logistical challenges, particularly in densely populated and areas with high traffic volumes.
This is because the various suppliers on construction sites generate traffic, noise and CO2 emissions, which are harmful to people and the environment. As a logistics partner, Swiss Post provides support, consolidating journeys and coordinating storage or transport of building materials on sites. Swiss Post wants to boost its logistics competencies for building projects and to expand its range of services in Switzerland via a partnership. For this reason, it intends to establish a joint venture with construction logistics specialist Griep, based in Wiesbaden, Germany. This would bring together Griep’s companies and all of Swiss Post’s construction logistics activities. The two companies today signed a letter of intent for this purpose. The responsible competition authority will now examine the prospective partnership.
For some years now, Swiss Post has been involved when efficient logistics processes are needed on construction sites: making optimal use of space for manoeuvring or for loading and unloading, coordinating truck deliveries to ensure no waiting times on sites and as little disruption as possible for residents. Swiss Post offers its construction logistics expertise for exactly such procedures and also handles the transport of material on-site and professional disposal of building waste, always with the goal of re-using material. By doing so, it is helping to make site operations more sustainable, reduce city center traffic and reduce noise and CO2 emissions. Swiss Post now intends to reinforce its expertise via a partnership with an established specialist in the construction logistics sector, establishing a joint venture with Griep Group, based in Wiesbaden, Germany. The Griep family business was founded in 2012 and today employs around 180 people.
Swiss Post will benefit from Griep’s construction logistics experience
The planned partnership would strengthen both companies: Griep Group is searching for a partner to expand its services in Switzerland. And, for some time, Swiss Post has been looking to establish a strategic partnership that can help the company make its construction logistics services in Switzerland even more professional. Over the past decade, Griep Group has become one of Germany’s leading construction logistics specialists. Griep’s experts offer experience from a variety of construction projects – from railway stations to high-rise developments, in urban or rural areas. Swiss Post is confident that it will benefit from the joint venture with Griep, helping it to design even more focused logistics concepts for Swiss construction sites.
Swiss Post and Griep plan to begin the joint venture from January 2024 at the earliest, subject to approval by the Federal Cartel Office in Germany.
